I saw this posting on a blog called “Worship Tech Online” that I just discovered – the post is a few days old, but it’s a goodie. Brian Davis, the author of the site, describes a ‘video feature’ he did in his church for promoting a focus on mission that the church was embarking on. On a wall outside the sanctuary, he describes how they covered the wall with some custom graphics and mounted three LCDs running DVDs describing different missional work. What I love about this is that it’s the kind of strategy that museums, zoos, and other sorts of ‘attractions’ (for lack of better word) use to grab your attention and keep it to pass on a message. Big display, to get your eyes there, and dynamic elements to keep it. And of course, the entry describes the equipment and strategy they used to construct it, so check that out for pointers. This is the kind of thing that I think balances a need to promote our messages in a modern way, without trying to go crazy with the tech – just a good, simple use of multimedia to remind churchgoers of their Christ-given mission to the world.
“Nice display… mind if I switch the channel? The pregame’s on…”
